Support for the implementation of thematic and cross-cutting activities of the regional SANOI program
Context The Regional Support Program for Food Security and Nutrition (SANOI) aims to reduce malnutrition and food insecurity in the Indian Ocean region (Mauritius, Comoros, Madagascar, Seychelles), particularly for children aged 0 to 5 years and pregnant women. Project Objectives The general objective of this contract is to support the implementation of the regional SANOI program through actions in two thematic areas (food quality and safety, nutrition) and cross-cutting activities (internal and external communication, exchange of experiences, and best practices). All activities carried out must contribute to promoting the cross-cutting objectives of the European Commission, particularly those related to environmental protection, climate change adaptation, gender equality, and women's empowerment. The specific objectives of the contract are as follows: Strengthen the capacities of beneficiary countries in the field of sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures. Implement awareness-raising actions on good nutrition practices. Support the program's internal communication and promote the sharing of knowledge, experiences, and best practices in the areas covered by the SANOI program. Results The main results from this contract are as follows: Output 1 - An intervention plan for SPS capacity building activities is developed. Output 2 - At least 2 SPS capacity-building activities are carried out (regional seminar and training sessions on SPS border inspections and controls). Output 3 - A regional directory of laboratories is developed. Output 4 - The competent SPS authorities are made aware of the need for a laboratory policy. Output 5 - The skills of laboratory staff in analysis methods and equipment maintenance are enhanced. Output 6 - The exchange and networking of players (competent authorities and laboratories) in the SPS field at regional level are stimulated. Output 7 - At least three communication/awareness-raising initiatives on nutrition are implemented. Output 8 - Two thematic activities enabling the exchange of experience and knowledge between players (administrations, NGOs, private sector, etc.) from IOC countries are organised. Output 9 - Two annual meetings of the CSO are organised. Output 10 - Communication on the activities carried out under the contract is ensured and highlights the visibility of the SANOI programme and the EU-IOC partnership.
